Counting Down…

Posted by WhizzyWig under 6. Uncategorized |

So who’s staying up all night on Thursday? I know I am.

With barely two days left to go until the big reveal, I’m getting pretty excited. Despite all the work Rainmaker’s done (and Zeros2Heroes, and the comic team) I feel like this web-thing is going to be the real beginning of a whole new era. Exactly where Rainmaker plans to take ReBoot is still a mystery, but considering what I know about Rainmaker and their leadership, I’m thrilled. You can bet I’ll be first in line in Vancouver for tickets to the movies.

Until then, let’s keep the fantensity going. Comment below if you’re going to be here all night long, waiting for the new site.

Also, check Z2H’s post about winning the PopVox award. Yay them! Here’s Z2H’s official announcement:

ReBoot At the PopVox

The Zeros 2 Heroes/Rainmaker campaign to relaunch ReBoot won the 2008 PopVox Award for Best Digital Campaign… and all thanks goes to you, the heroes who want to bring it back. With this win over big brands like Ubisoft and Virgin Music, ReBooters have shown that their “fantensity” is second to none. Congrats!

“[Rainmaker] really couldn’t be happier with the response from ReBoot fans”, said Paul Gertz, EVP of Rainmaker Entertainment. “We wanted to re-develop the property in an entirely new way and have found the “wisdom of the crowds” to be right on the money.”

This win marks another step forward for the ReBoot franchise: based on the initial feedback from the fanbase, plans are well underway for the first in a trilogy of animated films. The web release of a long-awaited ReBoot comic — titled Paradigms Lost — is also in the wings.

So, if you’re a ReBoot fan, feel free to take a bow: your unwavering dedication and passion for the show has helped get us here.

  • I’m definitely going to the store today to stock up on all kinds of great junk food for the night of the countdown. It shall be epic.

  • My sleeping schedule is already messed up, and I’m trying to correct it. Believe me, I’m not staying up all night. But will likely check it in the morning. :]

So by the way, how much of the comic is done? You guys *Have* started working on chapter 2 already, right?

  • I can’t say. :(

    Comment by DivineRoseBoot | May 28th, 2008 @ 8:58 am

  • I have the next couple books fully outlined. However, the continuation of the series still depends on the success of this first book. So once it’s up, bring all your friends!

    Comment by WhizzyWig | May 28th, 2008 @ 9:12 am

  • I’m up ’til at least 11:30 tomorrow night anyway, so I’ll definitely watch the counter hit 00:00:00:00:00. I hope the content shows up right away, though. If I have to wait for the content to be posted, I may just not bother and check it in the morning.

    Comment by manta_ray007 | May 28th, 2008 @ 10:55 am

  • I’m usually up at that time anyway so I will be on the reboot website at midnight.

    Comment by Steve | May 28th, 2008 @ 11:21 am

  • Hey guys,

I recently watched my only DVD of Reboot S3 (Last 4 eps) and given i’m from the UK, i was gutted when CITV took ReBoot off air. This is fantastic to see that fan support CAN bring a series back, even if it’s just a small step forward in the form of some webcomics.

To find that Reboot.com was suddenly a registered domain from when i tried it all these years ago and that the clock was ticking, i couldn’t beleive it - It was either Daemon up to her tricks again or something big was happening.

I’m off to an anime club tomorrow night and I fullt intend to load the countdown clock onto the projector screen and tantalize those who are there =)

Good luck with the launch guys, I’m ready to REBOOT!

    Comment by JayDrive | May 28th, 2008 @ 11:25 am

  • I know a couple of guys who would be really happy about this. It depends how late it is going to launch, but I will definitely read this on Friday.

    Comment by Azalea | May 28th, 2008 @ 11:48 am

  • Of course I will be here, what else could possibly be more important than this?

    Comment by Koetse | May 28th, 2008 @ 12:37 pm

  • Wait, is it officially opening up at midnight Vancouver time, or midnight everywhere? If it’s Vancouver then there’s not much chance I’m staying up ’til 4 AM!

    Comment by LadyLazuli | May 28th, 2008 @ 12:42 pm

  • I’ve been staying up until 2:30 am for about two weeks now, so I guess I’ll stay up again for the countdown!

    Comment by etoile37 | May 28th, 2008 @ 1:28 pm

  • oh yes, I’ll be here. It’ll be Friday for me though, and much earlier in the day^^;;; I’ll have to figure the math out so I don’t miss it.

    Comment by Endian | May 28th, 2008 @ 1:47 pm

  • I’ll be here. I’m so excited.

    Comment by Mess98 | May 28th, 2008 @ 2:28 pm

  • Hmm, well, what’s more importaint, these last few days of High school that could potenially have an effect on the course of my future, or Reboot? Well, doy, Reboot of course, but we’ll see if I have the will power to stay up and deal with the consquences of sleeping in Friday.

    Comment by Nolan | May 28th, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

  • Well, if that timer is working on GMT (as it appears to be when I look at it) then the comic should be up at midnight tomorrow for me, so I’ll definitely be up and waiting for it! If it’s going up at midnight Eastern, Central or Pacific time then probably not because that would be 5am/6am/8am over here, and I have work at 9 on Friday morning…

    Comment by Jen Kollic | May 28th, 2008 @ 2:55 pm

  • Woot! New Reboot on my Birthday!

    Comment by MarsNeedsWomen | May 28th, 2008 @ 3:43 pm

  • Congrats on winning!

I think the countdown will be for this webcomic, but I hope there will be a part on that site where we can send messages to Paul Gertz, I REALLY want to share my opinion with him

    Comment by Squall142 | May 28th, 2008 @ 4:43 pm

  • I second that! But just to ask him something.

    Comment by Azalea | May 28th, 2008 @ 6:27 pm

  • What do you want to ask him?

    Comment by Squall142 | May 28th, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

  • I got work at 8 am, but I’ll do it anyway.

    Comment by stillWarm | May 28th, 2008 @ 6:51 pm

  • I would ask Paul if the new movies will feature Megabyte, and if so, have they considered getting Earl Boen to do the voice. His “Nemesis” voice from Black & White would suit him well in my opinion. Plus, he and Tony Jay have worked together in the past. I think it feels right.

    Comment by Seiryu | May 28th, 2008 @ 7:03 pm

  • Oh! Me! Maybe not ALL night, but I’ll certainly watch that counter hit zero.

  • I’m SO staying up.
And professor, if the movie is actually released in theaters, tell me which one and I’ll meet you there lol!

    Comment by Blaquewidowe | May 28th, 2008 @ 8:36 pm

  • “Wait, is it officially opening up at midnight Vancouver time, or midnight everywhere? If it’s Vancouver then there’s not much chance I’m staying up ’til 4 AM!”

Based on what time it is here by me, I’d say Midnight Eastern-Standard ( -05:00 GMT).

Since my clock says 1:30am, and the site opens in 22:30 hours.

Which means that in Vancouver… the site should be up around 8-9pm.

    Comment by CyberDramon | May 28th, 2008 @ 9:31 pm

  • I think it’ll be Vancouver time….
Its 11:28 here (in Vancouver) and it says that there is 1 day and 32 minutes left…

    Comment by Blaquewidowe | May 28th, 2008 @ 10:28 pm

  • And I’ve got 21 hours and 21 minutes right now… Eh. I’ll just pull an all-nighter anyway.

    Comment by LadyLazuli | May 28th, 2008 @ 10:35 pm

  • That countdown is funny as it is based on your computer clock. So I’ve already played with it and got my counter down to zero. Alas no comic showed up. I’m still holding out hope as there’s only 4 hours left till it’s Friday in Anadyr Russia.

    Comment by kronostar | May 28th, 2008 @ 10:56 pm

  • Someone should record the counter going to zero and put it up on YouTube.

    Comment by DivineRoseBoot | May 29th, 2008 @ 4:29 am

  • I’d like to stay up for the Grand Unveiling, but as it’s going to appear around 3:00 AM EST and I have to be up at 5:00 to go to work, it’s not gonna happen. It’d kinda be bad politics for me to turn up half asleep on ISO audit day, considering that I’m the ISO Administrator.

Totally logging in from the office when nobody’s looking, though.

    Comment by Slackbot | May 29th, 2008 @ 4:30 am

  • Definitely staying up to see it if my family doesn’t interfere…

    Comment by Gacko | May 29th, 2008 @ 4:41 am

  • I’ll be checking in when I can. I can’t pull the all nighters the way I use to , and still function at work the next morn.

lol Kinda feels like Xmas eve…..

    Comment by Candy/TurtleDreamer | May 29th, 2008 @ 5:19 am

  • I’ll be here waiting for the clock to strike zero as well.

Its interesting that the countdown is based on your own computer time; ultimately that means we have no idea when everything will be unveiled. Unless Rainmaker is planning to bend space-time for us…

    Comment by SteelCougar307 | May 29th, 2008 @ 5:47 am

  • Joy! time for what we’ve all been waiting for…

    Comment by Bob | May 29th, 2008 @ 6:41 am

  • I would stay up all night and wait for the ReBoot thing, but I have stuff to do that isn’t sleeping. :/

    Oh, hey, ReBoot won! Awesome.

    Comment by The Red Snifit | May 29th, 2008 @ 9:38 am

  • So… does anyone know for definite what timezone the actual countdown is running in, since the one on the site just counts down using your computer time?

    Comment by Jen Kollic | May 29th, 2008 @ 9:53 am

  • I would say the time zone of whichever city Rainmaker HQ is in (Pacific Time?). Which means that here in Ontario the site would only be up around 4am. That being said, people on the other side of the earth may have to wait several hours (perhaps 24?) past their clock’s ‘midnight’ before the site is actually up.

Provided, of course, that the clock really *is* a countdown to the site coming online, and not just a general countdown to the ’31st’ (at which time the site could come up ’sometime’ during that day).

    Comment by CyberDramon | May 29th, 2008 @ 12:01 pm

  • well, the site is glitching, and not the good kind.

    Comment by darkflame | May 29th, 2008 @ 2:15 pm

  • Hey gang,

Just to clarify, there was a little glitch in the countdown on the reboot.com site (Yes it was based on your computer’s time, no it wasn’t supposed to be that way). We apologize for the confusion.

The countdown is being fixed right now. The actual end time for the countdown is Friday May 30th at Midnight PST (Pacific Time), and shortly this should be reflected accurately on the website, no matter where you are in the world, or how much you’ve messed with your computer’s time settings. ;-)

Sorry again for the confusion, we’re as anxious as you are to see the countdown hit zero..

    Comment by Asalis | May 29th, 2008 @ 8:44 pm

  • Hey gang, just a reminder from my earlier post, the countdown expires at Midnight PST (Pacific Time) so that’s 3AM Eastern Time. In about 2 hours and 10 minutes from now…

If some of you are seeing the countdown at zero already, you may have the older version of the Flash movie cached in your browser. We found a bug earlier in the Flash movie that was misreporting the time and fixed it this afternoon.

Sorry for the confusion! We’re almost there… :-)

  • The comic looks amazing, but why must it be squeezed into such a small window. It’s impossible to enjoy the visual masterpiece with my view shackled to a tiny rectangle where I can’t see the entire page and have to scroll around to read the dialogue and enjoy the details. Please let us have a full screen actual size view. There’s a reason I’ve got such a high resolution wide screen monitor.

  • Hey folks, small problem with comments in the comic - we’re working it out as I type.

    Comment by CE0 | May 30th, 2008 @ 12:02 am

  • Awesome! Really impressed with the comic but agree that the window is a little too small. I was hoping that when you hit he maximise, it would maximise to the full window of the browser, not the tiny rectangle in the middle. Regardless I was really excited about the launch and seeing the comic up there. Great work everyone! Looking forward to the next release! ^_^b

    Comment by Mayhem | May 30th, 2008 @ 12:06 am

  • Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love that you created this comic to share with us it is absolutely wonderful to see the story continue. The artwork is amazing and I enjoy the dark tone of the story telling. I’ve grown enough to cringe at the puns (”in my facebook”) though they are appreciated.
Please change the comic book viewer so we can enjoy your work more. The artwork and page layout looks fantastic from what little I can see. It’s basically forcing us to try to read it with one eye closed and the other has to look through a tube or else look at the 2 pages from 10 feet up.
I am puzzled by the other sprites featured in mainframe at the evacuation. At first I thought it might be a cameo, but reading the notes it looks like the artist just wanted to draw some sprites for the heck of it and excusing it by saying the cartoon series didn’t have more sprites for technical reasons. Although I don’t doubt the technical limitations it was established in the series that there were no other sprites in Mainframe except for the Matrixs and Bob due to the explosion of the twin city. This is what made the introduction of Andraia so pivotal as it gave Enzo a friend who was a sprite.
Anyways, from the notes it looks like the z2h reboot team did take a lot of care to keep continuity as much as possible along with telling a great story. I have only a few other minor complaints and my sprite complaint is a minor one as well but I wanted to voice it.
Stellar alphanumeric job! Please don’t make us wait too long for book 2 and the rest of this season.

    Comment by kronostar | May 30th, 2008 @ 12:09 am

  • Comic looks pretty slick, once I got it to load (had problems loading just one page - the rest came up just fine). I was squinting at the screen a lot; even allowing for enlarging the text bubbles, it was a little frustrating, and it was hard to see some of the art for that same reason.

    Comment by DixonGreen | May 30th, 2008 @ 12:12 am

  • Kronostar and others - we have heard you on the viewer size. Our tech is already plotting how to make it happen.

Most ReBooters are still coming to the site with 1024 by 768 resolutions, so we had to optimize the experience for those folks… but we’ll see about an option for power users.

  • It is so funny reading some of these posts. We some really die hard people waiting. Me? I got up at 5:00 this moring but didn’t get downstairs to my CPU until 5:45. And then I couldn’t login for a few minutes.

Wow Jeff! They really made you change a lot of the dialogue for the draft you sent. I pictured some of the art different but I love it! Especially that last shot of the head Codemaster. What a wild looking design. My only issue will always be that Bob needs a belt. And his hair looks black in some of the panels.

Other then having to put up with the navigation, I love what you guys did. Thank you. NOW TO SPREAD THE WORD!

  • I guess I’m a bit late commenting, but I was certainly there. Although I couldn’t read the comic till the next morning anyway because there was too much traffic apparently and the page wouldn’t load. :(
